What are chakras?
In Sanskrit, “chakra” translates to disk or wheel. There are seven primary chakras which run from the bottom of the spine to the top of the head. Each chakra is connected to a specific physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual state of being and development. Chakras are wheels of energy that vibrate in specific colors. When all seven chakras are balanced, we will feel healthy and aligned. When any of them are imbalanced or blocked, we can run into emotional, physical, or spiritual issues. Therefore, it is important to keep these energy centers open and balanced.
What do herbs have to do with chakras?
There are several ways to balance chakras. These include Reiki, yoga, mantras we can say, and meditation, for example. External supports can include the use of crystals and/or herbs. Crystals and herbs (plants) have vibrational frequencies that connect us back to the earth and to source energy, so utilizing them can assist us in our path to wellness. Just as there are several crystals that are appropriate for specific healing purposes, there are specific herbs that are associated with supporting certain chakras. Each chakra has a specific energetic vibration, and specific herbs can be used to rebalance them. Using herbs to help stimulate or heal your chakras is particularly beneficial, as herbs are able to touch us on an energetic level as well as a physical level to clear out psychic debris and increase oxygen and detoxification pathways.
What is a full moon tincture?
Herbalists often work with the cycles of the moon when making earth medicines. Some herbalists choose a new moon to make medicine, while others choose full moons. Our chakra tinctures are made during a full moon because the gravitational pull of the moon is strongest at this time and extracts the medicinal properties of the herbs into the liquid solvent. They are macerated (brewed) in 80 proof alcohol for 8 weeks, then strained. Some tinctures have the addition of orange blossom water, rosewater, or honey to complement the flavor of the herbs.
When do chakra tinctures get used?
Chakra tinctures can be used anytime, anywhere; however, they are best used when one can set an intention upon their desired use, whether it be before a yoga class, meditation, or sleep. When working with the chakras, it is best to pay full attention to them and to allow oneself to focus on the desired outcome. Giving reverence to the herbs before taking them will only enhance efficacy.
Suggested ritual: Find a comfortable, quiet place to relax. Take a few deep grounding breaths. Perhaps listen to a guided meditation if feeling like you are unable to focus your mind. Make yourself a warm cup of tea, or pour yourself a fresh glass of water. Add a dropper full of your chakra tincture of choice into your drink. Give thanks to the herbs for being your allies and assisting you in balancing whatever chakra you are setting the intention to balance. During your meditation, appreciate the herbs as you enjoy taking them into your body. It is as simple as that!
